As a former athlete, spouse of an athlete, and a parent of athletes, I stand by Simone Biles.

The stuff the other person said was just to garner clicks and to further monetize engagement and fame while sucking up to the movement he was part of.

Non-athletes often times have no idea what athletes endure to shine in their sports. Even now decades after my peak, I endure pain every single day, as I have daily since I was 8-years old, over 2-dozen broken bones ago (my first broken bone was at 8-months old).

Last night I met with some friends, one of whom had knee replacement last week. I needed double knee replacement 30-years ago. I have not had it done because:

1. The replacements 30-years ago were failing in 5-7 years, and after 3-attempts, you need to amputate.
2. You can't jump after knee replacement. I was training my daughter in basketball until 5-years ago.

3. Captain Kirk is 94 years old and refuses to get it because he keeps his synovial fluid up. Who am I to call him a fool?

The life of a Gladiator can be full of glamour, but in nearly every case, it is full of sacrifice, pain, and long term consequences that few understand or sympathize with.
