“CONSEQUENCES FOR THEE, BUT NOT FOR ME?” — A FIRST AMENDMENT REALITY CHECK FROM JUDGE MIKE CARTER

Justice & Journalism with Judge Mike Carter

JIMMY KIMMEL CALLED FOR “CONSEQUENCES” FOR ROSEANNE — BUT WHERE WERE HIS?

In 2018, after Roseanne Barr tweeted: “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby = vj”, ABC didn’t hesitate. They canceled her show the same day. That night, Jimmy Kimmel applauded the move, saying: “This wasn’t about free speech… it was about consequences for saying something vile. You can say what you want, but networks don’t have to pay you to say it… Actions have consequences, and ABC made the right call.” But let’s not forget: Kimmel wore blackface in past comedy sketches —

ABC stood by him. Megyn Kelly merely discussed blackface in a Halloween segment — NBC fired her.

So which is it? CONSEQUENCES FOR THEE… BUT NOT FOR ME?
