NATO will shoot down Russian drones and fighter jets that violate its airspace

At Estonia’s initiative, NATO headquarters held an extraordinary meeting under Article 4 of the alliance treaty following Russian MiG-31 fighters violating Estonian airspace.

The meeting resulted in a joint statement by all 32 NATO members, saying the alliance and its partners will use all necessary military and non-military means, in accordance with international law, to defend themselves and deter threats from any direction.

The document also clarified that NATO may shoot down not only drones but Russian fighter jets if they are deemed a threat to alliance territory.

NATO stated that Russia bears full responsibility for escalating airspace violations.
