>>In an unpublished memoir, the former Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers under Reagan, Beryl Sprinkel, recounted how on a trip to Paris for a G8 Summit (or some such), their French police escorts halted traffic throughout Paris so that his and other dignitaries’ motorcades could glide grandly through without any heed to traffic impediments, even traffic lights. Sprinkel was horrified and deeply embarrassed by the pomposity of this show of aristocratic superiority over the needs of the Paris citizenry. I may be the only person ever to have ever read this small anecdote and of Sprinkel’s discomfort. So for the tables to have turned on Macron yesterday in “democratic” New York strikes me as, well, somewhat to be expected.

He then went on to be horrified even more by the ignorant dronings of Mitterrand at the Conference, an undisguised communist.
