A residential high-rise tower in Gaza City was reduced to rubble after being targeted by Israeli air strikes on Sunday.
The attackl came as the Palestinian death toll passed 66,000 since Israel launched its campaign against Hamas following the October 7 massacre, according to Gaza's Health Ministry.
The 16-storey Mecca Tower in the Rimal neighbourhood was destroyed after an evacuation warning was issued by the Israeli military - displacing hundreds of Palestinian civilians.
Photographs and video footage show two missiles heading towards the building, followed by a huge explosion at its base.
The building then suffered a full structural collapse, with plumes of thick dark smoke and debris engulfing the sky as the tower came crashing down.
The bombing took place after the Israeli army warned residents to leave the residential block and head to the al-Mawasi area in southern Gaza, Middle East Monitor reported.
The bombing of the Mecca Tower is the latest attack in what analysts say is a campaign to target multistorey buildings in Gaza - an area that has already seen much of its urban infrastructure reduced to rubble.
Israeli military spokesperson Ivi Devirin claimed that the IDF moved to launch strikes on high-rise buildings because Hamas was allegedly using them for military operations.
On September 5, the Mushtaha Tower, in the same al-Rimal neighbourhood, collapsed after being targeted by the IDF, who claimed it was sheltering Hamas fighters.
The 16-storey Mecca Tower in Gaza City was destroyed after an evacuation warning was issued by the Israeli militaryHowever that claim was strongly contested by the building's management, who said it was only able to be accessed by Palestinians displaced by the conflict, Al Jazeera reported.
The following day the Sussi Tower was the second of Gaza City's high-rises to be destroyed, with leaflets distributed by the Israeli military once again instructing displaced Palestinians to head to a humanitarian zone in the south.
On social media platform X, Israeli defence Minister Israel Katz posted footage of the Sussi Tower collapsing, together with the caption: 'We're continuing'.
The destruction of the Mecca Tower came a day before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu heads to the White House for talks with US President Donald Trump on halting Israel's ongoing offensive in Gaza City.
Netanyahu has come under heavy international pressure to end the war. Key Western allies have joined a growing list of countries recognizing a Palestinian state over Israeli objections.
The European Union is considering sanctions and there are growing moves for a sports and cultural boycott against Israel.
After dozens of delegates poured out of the hall, a defiant Netanyahu told fellow world leaders Friday at the U.N. General Assembly that his nation 'must finish the job' against Hamas in Gaza as his military pressed on with an offensive in Gaza City.
Trump has so far stood behind Israel. But the US leader has shown signs of impatience in recent times, particularly after Israel's bombing of Qatar earlier this month in what appears to have been a failed attempt to kill Hamas' leadership. In Monday's White House meeting, Trump is expected to share a new proposal for ending the war.
Forty-eight hostages are still held captive in Gaza, around 20 of them believed by Israel to be alive, since an attack by Hamas-led militants on October 7, 2023, triggered the war. Ceasefire talks have been stalled since Israel's widely condemned strike in Doha, Qatar.
