My son is MS certified, although retired, so he may not be as up to date as he once was, but he's advised me on keeping my computers current. I do a RESTART every Wednesday, without fail. As I understand it, Microsoft does updates with some regularity at least a couple times a month on Tuesdays. Other times as they are so inclined.

I also do a restart any time I feel the machine is running like a slug. That usually gets things right, at least for a while. I think I'll try to get along with fewer windows open. I'm just in the habit, from years ago, to start each day with 4 windows open, each assigned a task. However, lately, I just don't pay much attention to a couple of them for hours on end. That, by itself, may clear up my problems. Curiously, I do all this same routine on two new laptops, running Windows 11, and never have a problem..... so far.

Thanks for your suggestion!
