Yes I did, a while back.
Not really your conventional PV type of solar plant. From what I understood there were a lot of problems with the plant, continual maintenance cuz things just did not work right.
My only solar investment at the moment is CSIQ. Probably remain that way too. They have an excellent line of consumer awa industrial products. They also own Recurrent Energy, which produces a considerable amount of solar PV power. Over the next 10 yrs I am of the opinion that power is going to rise in price, quite a bit. CSIQ is sort of swinging more and more in that direction, i.e. to a power producer, and globally.
I live in the interior of AK. We have had to deal with high power costs for quite some time, home consumers now pay ~ 30 cents per kw/hr. A lot of PV solar has been installed up here, home consumer awa small business. We only have one utility, they are sort of solar friendly. If you are on grid you cannot make money off of solar, but you can lower your yearly costs by a nice amount.
Our power costs are not far from twice the average L48, which is quite variable. I am expecting the price of crude to bottom and go up again, maybe to a new ATH. Since most of our power is generated from liquid fuels, our power costs will likely head up even more.
I have evaluated installing home solar. If I did I would probably install an ~ 13 Kw system. The payback if I did most of it myself would be rapid, less than 4 yrs. If I hired it all done, maybe about twice that. I would be self sufficient more than 6 mos a year, maybe close to 8. Our problem is the long winter, with some sun, just not very many hours a day. And unfortunately that is when we need most of our energy, for home heating.
And I would use CSIQ panels, no doubt. Installing home solar with no battery back up is not that difficult. Gets a little more complicated if you install battery back up, automatic transfer and all that.
Still pondering, but I may move in the next few years, so ......
