Not sure how you get around that, even if you have Sanders, AOC, and Crockett leading. At least we still didn't make mistake of abolishing the filibuster.

All the military equipment in the world is only useful as a deterrent or an instrument of dominance. So far the deterrence part has worked. Russia's not much of a factor in a more or less rational world, even with chump on its side. China will be the next hegemon, even though, near term, they're unlikely to carry out any D Day scale amphibious operations. (msgid=35267573). The US military, whose only victory since WWII was maybe Grenada, will continue to flounder, slowly fading in importance.
But all bets are off if an aging megalomaniac decides to go nuclear, or one of the newer nuclear states pours it gasoline on a sideshow war.
