I think the GOP went too far to the right with abortion

The GOP didn't do anything federal on abortion.

The Supreme Court ruled that abortion is not mentioned in the constution and therefore there is no "right to abortion".

At that point state laws which restricted abortion prior to Roe v. Wade came back into effect. Some states heavily restrict abortion, others do not. In many cases the citizens of the states which heavily restricted abortion have passed referedums to loosen restrictions.

Abortion in each state now (in theory) matches the will of that state's voters.

That's not a GOP movement. It's a reduction in activist judge's power.

And since the state laws reflect the will of that state's people, it's sort of hard for the abortion laws of a given state to "go too far". You may not like the restrictions, but they are the will of that state's voters.
