I remember my mom explaining to me about the brand new rubella vaccine before I got my vaccination. It was very much an issue before the vaccine. I also remember kids in special ed because of measles, albeit rubeola.

Two different viruses, but similar etiology and symptoms when mild. Both very much factors, medically speaking, before vaccines. There simply was little to be done in either case until vaccines.
