My malpractice is about 12K/ yr not too bad. Fortunately I don’t do mammo which is higher risk.
The technical fee is what the hospital charges for a study to cover the equipment costs, technologist costs etc.
For example an Ultrasound of the gallbladder tech fee is about $650 where the profess(my fee) is about $35 .My malpractice would be paid from my salary/ tech fee.
The vast majority of hospitals are short of radiologists so hospitals offer groups subsidy’s to work there.
Last week my 75 year old group closed its doors because we were burned out being short staffed. The hospital offered us a lot of $$$ to stay on but we just couldn’t do it anymore. The group that took over is a larger group and I work for them now , and was able to scale back to part time for pretty much the same pay.
Radiology is a goldmine for the hospital especially from the ER where no one leaves anymore without a few unnecessary CT scans etc.
