The Mercury News story is too gee-whizzy; DPMI itself stresses that any use is a long way (2001+) off, and the research demonstrates only that they can achieve .08u linewidths, not that they can produce entire devices at that feature size. The primary losers might be companies that have spent big research bucks on soft X-ray / deep-UV litho, the need for which would be much delayed.
