Nice Shooting

Posted on October 4, 2025

by Baron Bodissey

Nice is a city on the southeastern coast of France, at the foot of the Maritime Alps. It used to be that the city was considered an idyllic tourist destination on the Côte d’Azur, but apparently Nice isn’t so nice these days: two people were killed there last night by automatic weapons during a culture-enriching gun battle.

Many thanks to Gary Fouse for translating this article from Nice Presse. The translator notes that he didn’t include the insert, which is in English:
Two deaths and several very seriously wounded

October 3, 2025

A shooting with “automatic weapons” in the Moulins quarter has resulted in several victims on Friday, October 3, in Nice. Christian Estrosi [the mayor of Nice] mentions “connections with narco trafficking”. The prefect has announced police reinforcements.

“A shooting took place this evening in the Moulins quarter. Two people are deceased, two people are critically wounded, and three others are slightly wounded.” This is the toll confirmed on Friday evening by the prefecture of Alpes-Maritimes.

“Police and firefighters are on the scene and have proceeded to secure the perimeter.” The State representative “very strongly condemns this despicable act.” Per the decision of the Minister of Interior, reinforcements will be mobilized tomorrow to ensure the return of safety in the quarter and will remain as long as necessary.

A mixed reaction from Eric Ciotti [politician representing Alpes-Maritimes in the National Assembly]: “A terrible toll in Moulins. Faced with this infernal spiral, yet another announcement of police reinforcements who will stay a few days… before leaving. Those who have allowed this situation in Nice and Paris should leave.”

Update from the translator
The French blog François deSouche reports that according to various French news sources, some of the victims were bystanders. All of the victims were “non-Europeans”, and according to Le Figaro, one of them was a Chechen national.
