The trouble with owning just one stock is that you reduce the probability of success.

Really? Why? I doubt it.

Lets say you had two groups of 100 investors.


One group of 100 picks one stock and just holds it for a year.

The other group picks 5 stocks with weights between 10% and 30%, and hold the five for a year.

You think more of the 100 in group 2 will beat the S&P 500 than the 100 in group 1? Why?
