>> No one has figured out what the business model for Open AI and Anthropic is yet was her point.

This was true in the early days of Internet too. Nobody knew what it was good for, but everyone knew it will be a game changer.

The AI companies are actually well ahead of the early internet companies in part because they've learned many of those lessons, and in part because their product has a more tangible benefit than early internet did.

>> For everyone else that does not have the luxury of the halo of being an AI leader, they need a good business model to start out as their runway is shorter.

Yes, and her advice about using AI to solve boring problems is true. But she missed talking about is that you can't do that until the industry matures.

Hypothetically, even if you had the idea for Airbnb or Uber back in the mid '90s, you would still have low chance of succeeding (if at all) because there was no such thing as an iPhone or mobile computing back then. The state of the art was the Motorola flip phone that looked like the old Star Trek communicator.

The same is true for AI today. My area of research is neuro-symbolic AI, which solves the boring problems she talks about. But the process is like trying build a race track and a race car inside a moving train using parts from the same freight train that is carrying you.

It will be different in 5 to 10 years when we all know what we are doing. But by then most of the landgrab will be gone.

So everyone has a choice, wait for the dust to settle and build from a blueprint, or start building all floors in mid air and hope that the foundation will arrive by the time you need it.
