They say curry isn’t a drug, but I’m not so sure. I can drive past any fast-food place venting their ovens to the outside, from Burger King to KFC, without the slightest urge to stop. In the cold months, a good bulb of farm-grown garlic can work wonders, it may not be classified as a narcotic, but it does a fine job of keeping the blood moving and the body warm. If you’re stranded in the dead of -40 winter, a mickey of vodka can serve as a good remedy. Take small sips, it’ll give you a bit of warmth and energy. And if it doesn’t save you it will make the drift into a final frozen sleep a little more pleasant.
