A few factors we can not dismiss- what is Goldman Sachs up to? For close to 100 years the USA has done everything they could to bash and discredit gold - even made it illegal to own the stuff. At one point they came up with paper gold which was supposed to represent actual gold but does not. GS could short gold to infinity and any loses are covered by the US government (or were- who knows what the deal is currently) Got to wonder if the US had lost control of the gold price or elected to let it run. Got to also wonder what they will attempt in an effort to gain back control.
Separate issue is old Fort Knox - decades ago - as far back as the 1970s there were rumours that the Republicans had sold off the metal - and their delays in repatriating gold back to countries that applied for their gold stockpile to be returned indicates that the stockpiles are less than they should be. So what happened to Elmo and the orange madman going to Fort Knox?
Also short of an independent check from a foreign trusted source why would anyone believe anything the US says about gold stock piles?
Gold at $4000 sounds high but is it? What would an ounce be worth today if the US had not spent 100 years messing with the value of the yeller metal?

Just saying

Edit: and Canada not backing the Canadian buck with large gold reserves is a stupid ass move. We got the mines - why not stockpile the stuff?
