Why farmers voted for Trump.

IMO, there were two primary reasons:

1) Farmers are generally more conservative.

2) They went into this with their eyes wide open, but thought Trump would bail them out of any trouble, and in addition he would give them tax cuts, deregulation and cheap labor.

So they knew what he would do, but their gamble turned out to be a disaster, so now they want socialism to give them money they are losing.

Most big farmers today are millionaires.

These are not the old 40 acres and a mule farmers of 100 year ago.
