Encyclopedias were almost always multiple books, not a singular "encyclopedia." Also, in most households, the parents purchased these, so you typically were the owner if you were the parent in the household. They were also ubiquitous at libraries as common reference materials.

The only exception I can think of is if you acquiredt a batch of encyclopedias at an estate sale or swap meet. Friends and family members also gave them away in the late 90's as the internet became the reference source of choice.

I never owned or played a vynil record, but I still own many vinyl records.

Technically, anyone who bought a home computer in the early 2000's got a free encyclopedia ap as part of the software that came with it, so I guess that includes me.
