"What else could it be???"

Golds value is not measured by a fiat currency
The value of gold coins were once based on the productivity of the country or at one time the individual states...

Fiat currencies are based on debt with the promise I'll pay you back...

The sliver certificates once issued by this country were backed by the hard asset...

ie: Spain at one time was the worlds wealthiest country because of the silver mined in South and central Americas.

"...so if the price of gold rises then it also implies the dollar is that much weaker..."

I've been rethinking that adage as well...
Todays US dollar is a fiat concept manipulated by the fed and interest rates.
It is not based on the wealth of this country...

DJ Trump has often spoken of returning this country to the people, and about taking back what has been manipulated by foreign interests against the people.

Maybe that is what the central banks of the world are worried about and why they are driving up the price of gold and silver with their fiat currencies.

If Trump can do what he's spoken about... then gold and silver will be much less volatile and much lower.

Just my thoughts...
