On a kindergarten level yes, but the conflict started 8 years prior, with a coup that replaced a democratically elected government with a US puppet regime, that set Ukraine on a collision course - war path - with Russia. It was a fatal mistake for Ukraine to follow this path. Literally fatal, because the generation of young people that would give birth to the next generation is either dead or moved out of Ukraine. Only a fraction remain, so whatever is left of Ukraine in the next generation will be only a tiny fraction of what it once was. Economically broken so much that the older Ukrainians will be begging Russia to put them on Russian pension system, because there will be none left in Ukraine.
