Flooding in Arizona continued yesterday, but the storms have passed as of today leaving a trail of deaths and damages across broad areas. I posted the last couple of days about the extensive property damages at the adjoining mining towns of Globe and Miami. Now, with the rains yesterday, a significant portion of US Hwy 60 between those towns and the mining town of Superior - think Resolution Copper -, has been closed from landslides. US Hwy 60 is the main route through the area from Southern California thought Phoenix and on to points in New Mexico and Texas.

There are no alternate roadways along this route. And there is no railroad because of the terrain. Therefore, the highway closure, which is expected to last for months, will require long detours causing significant delays for travelers and locals needing services/support at points outside the area. It will be a hardship for locals, and the major and junior mining companies working in the area. A few that I can think of include Rio Tinto, Freeport, Silver One, Silver Bullet, and others I don't recall at the moment. BHP was working there. I just don't know if they are still working in that area, though they are at other points in the state.
