Tariffs are related to price controls by raising input costs - this is overt, however. (US producers will raise their prices on the same products to just over the "floor" - Regardless of market conditions. Moreover, once price controls are imposed, removing them is far more difficult than imposing them (that's just how a bureaucracy works).
