Comrade Carney is a Net Zero hypocrite.

“Slash-and-sell” deforestation / environmental damage

A 2022 Global Witness report asserted that Brookfield (where Carney held leadership roles) offloaded farms in Brazil which had been deforested and tied to alleged human rights abuses, even though Carney publicly argued institutions should not simply “sell out” polluting assets.

The criticism is that Carney has spoken about institutional responsibility for environmental harms, yet his firm engaged in activities that arguably contradict those principles.

Involvement in fossil fuel / objectionable investments

Critics note that Brookfield has investments connected to fossil fuel infrastructure (pipelines, etc.).

Some commentators allege that Carney’s public climate advocacy is inconsistent with private-sector roles that permit or benefit from fossil-related assets.

Greenwashing / offset criticism

Carney has helped promote large-scale carbon credit / offset markets. Some environmental groups have pushed back, warning that, unless structured properly, these markets may be loopholes rather than genuine emissions reductions.

The argument is that advocating offsets (especially weak ones) can allow polluters to “buy their way out” without truly reducing emissions.

Public vs. private standards

Some critics argue that Carney demands stricter environmental commitments from others (governments, banks, companies) than he or his organizations adhere to. That is often the hallmark of hypocrisy: holding others to high standards while giving oneself leniency.
