Incarceration often burdens taxpayers far more than it punishes offenders. For example, on September 30, 2023, foreign nationals made up 25.2% of the 11,537 people in Dutch jails roughly 2,907 individuals. At an estimated cost of $125,000 USD per person per year, that amounts to $363,375,000 annually.
This is an enormous fiscal exposure. From my perspective, deliberately overloading a country’s prison system would be an effective way to destabilize a nation with otherwise limited defenses. The numbers themselves are alarming. GOV.UK reports that as of December 31, 2024, there were 10,355 foreign nationals held in custody, representing about 12% of the prison population.
All you really have to do is start cutting their balls off, overnight everybody would be a law abiding citizen. I remember an old sapper telling me how to keep ditches clean. He said you just need one guard with a machine gun. I said won't people run away? He said let them, and shoot two that stay, pretty soon they police each other and order is established.
A visible presence and clear consequences can be surprisingly effective.
