I have some gold like that too. Maybe worth a trip to the safe deposit box now to store them with gold so high.

When I sold paint in high school at Montgomery Wards (1975) I had permission to swap out silver dimes with current dimes (without silver). I have them in a small jar in a closet I think. Gemini says they are worth $3.80 each now which is a far better return than the stamps I collected that didn't really gain any value other than it is fun to put a handful of them on birthday cards I send. Lesson learned: "Buy FOREVER STAMPS" at Costco at a tiny discount.

Silver dime value by type

Junk silver dimes
Most common 90% silver dimes are only worth their value in silver. The melt value is calculated by multiplying the coin's actual silver weight (0.0723 troy ounces) by the current spot price of silver.
  • Roosevelt Dimes (1946–1964): These are the most common silver dimes and are considered "junk silver." As of October 2025, one of these is worth about $3.80 based on its silver content.
  • Mercury Dimes (1916–1945): These are older and more collectible but still often traded for their silver value. They share the same melt value as silver Roosevelt dimes, about $3.80 each.
  • Barber Dimes (1892–1916): As the oldest of the common 90% silver dimes, these are more collectible, but their melt value is also currently $3.80.
I have a silver certificate from waaaaay back too somewhere in my collection in a closet.
