Duke beat us up 2 weeks ago. "Can somebody explain why Cal is in the Atlantic Coast Conference?" We can see the Atlantic from outer space? We entered a "Who can generate the largest carbon footprint?" contest? It's totally nuts. When I was a kid, it was the Pacific Coast Conference; 4 from here, 2 in Ore, 2 in Wa, and Idaho. It broke up after a scandal, and the 4 Calif. teams and UW formed their own league, Pac 5 (AAWU), back to Pac 8, then Pac 10 and 12, cuz they can see the Pacific from the tallest mountain in Colo, I guess.
