The smart card is really like cash but instead of paper you got plastic.

I wonder who did NY subway smart card. as you may know no longer token but a smart card.

Advantage over cash you do not need to carry bills change, etc.as to what happend when you lose it if it has a code no one can get to it, when you lose cash you lost it .

You may have notice that money is being replace by electronic devices, ie paying tolls , so it is coming.
But I agree that initially it will meet some resistance.
