Organizers probably have information booths set up at the main gathering area where the public can listen to scheduled speakers and get refreshments. They may hand out placards or sings they can carry in support of the cause.

My guess is that protests in general are driven by influencers, multipliers, and organizers. Some are paid by governments as we saw with Israel. Some receive contributions, advertising revenues, or speaking fees from PACs controlled by wealthy donors and from major corporations.

Fact Check: Who is financing the No Kings protests

The people that attend the protests are by and large unpaid. Some may be responding to news stories and announcements put out by influencers and political news aggregation sites. Some of their stories tend to be sensationalist and inflammatory.
