It is interesting what happened to the German currency in the 1920's, but it's not at all comparable to our issues with fiat month today.

The Allies in WWI, excepting the USA, forced Germany to pay reparations for their costs of pursuing the war. The country was already wrecked, so they were faced with two challenges. One was paying the reparations, the other was trying to rebuild their economy. The answer was brilliant but poverty-evoking for the masses as they inflated away their debt, allowing Hitler to sweep in and militarize the economy starting with essentially no foreign debt.
