When you speak of "algorithms", do you think the objectives are any better today than they were in 1960? Isn't it true that newspapers and other media of past eras have tried to persuade? The NYT? WaPo? In fact, just about every media outlet is doing it. Furthermore, we now have entertainment (movies, television, and even fucking halftime at the Superbowl!)
Reality is that the media has been the far left lunatic fringe for decades. I would say, judging on having left this thread for a time, and left SI for a time, then returned, you are among the greatest victims of the "algorithms" of any: I see you have moved from being a reasonable conservative to a leftist nutjob in the course of a few years. You aren't the only one.
You were, by any objective analysis, at least moderately right leaning 15 years ago. Today, you seem pretty far left to me, just sort of on the bandwagon.
I don't think you'd be able to argue I've fundamentally changed in my views since I started posting here. Some moderation, I think, mostly attitudes that have changed because the environment has changed. One has to keep up with the times. But dude, if you want to talk algorithms, I think what I've seen is a serious oscillation to the far left. |
