Distribution history is the most important metric for me when deciding which CEF deserves a place in my portfolio. I hate having to constantly worry about when a cef distribution may be cut as dependable income generation from CEFs is the purpose/goal. I started my CEF portfolio by picking from the top 10 cefs based on distribution history noted in the attached spreadsheet snapshot. Note the data is only till 2021 as it is not being updated anymore, but still gives you an idea on which ones of the cefs are battle tested.

PS: do check distribution history for the most recent years before buying.
