How is it you think suddenly, the demand for soybean has dropped? You think China needs less because Trump put a tariff on it? All that does is to increase the world wide price of Soybean.
You just answered your own question. Rising prices of soybeans due to trade barriers will cause demand to fall. People who normally eat tofu will buy other foods. The supply-demand curve will shift toward lower supply, and the efficiencies of the market will be negatively affected.

No matter what, Trump's trade wars are having a detrimental effect on American farmers.

"Oh, but they'll find other buyers for the soybeans." Yeah, as if such market transitions caused by over-regulation don't have any negative side effects.
