The reason the longest prior US government shutdown was ended at 35 days probably had to do with SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Aid Program, formerly known as Food Stamps).

States have already been told they cannot distribute SNAP money for November, and many states have started informing the public of this fact.

The money needed to fund SNAP for November runs about $8-billion. There is $6-billion in emergency funds in the SNAP fund after October 31st, so it's short by $2-billion to fund November's needs.

There are lots of retirees who are living independent who depend on this for their food needs. There are also lots of children that depend on this as well.

Expect the government shutdown to end no later than maybe November 10, as 1 in 8 Americans will have their food aid cut off Nov. 1st, with some not having gone grocery shopping since the 1st week of October.
