Here's Andy Home, the best analyst on metals, on what's going on with LME zinc. It mostly has to do with smelters outside China either shutting down or curtailing production, and the shortage is only with refined zinc in LME warehouses. The metal itself remains in surplus and will likely continue to do so.

It's hard to play the miners, themselves, because it is such a tough business there aren't very many zinc-only miners. Most zinc is produced by majors as a byproduct of mining other metals.

My favourite zinc play is Fireweed Metals aka FWZ, which is drilling up a zinc-based area play in Yukon Territory, but it has already run hard, doubling this year. And it's more than just zinc, with a large past-producing tungsten mine just up the valley and another tungsten deposit just across the border in the Northwest Territories.

Another possibility might be Titan Mining aka TI.TO who operate a zinc mine in New York State, but they also are opening up a graphite mine so not a pure play.

I have a very small position in EDM.V, who are trying to reopen a part-producing zinc/gypsum mine in Nova Scotia, but it's a long shot IMO.
