Even then, Jobs made bad decisions. Like depending on HTML5, which was in draft, to obviate the need for apps on mobile devices. Jobs had to be dragged, kicking and screaming, to add apps to the Apple store which was only supposed to provide content for the iPod.

I can't say that Jobs "made a mistake" with that decision process. His first inclination was that it it was better not to "pollute" the iPhone with stray apps all over the place. But these are the kinds arguments that should be worked out in the Board room, which, within a short period of time. Before 2009 the app store made its debut. It is also a fact that prior to that time it made sense to allow users to familiarize themselves with what this new device was.

But the standards for apps had to be worked out, and frankly, it was a mess in the early incarnations. And it took a long time to get it cleaned up. I remember because I was writing an app at the time, and every time you got code solidified and tested, a new release came out and you rewrite fundamental aspects of your code. It is one reason we walked away from the native code versions. It is easy for major game developers, large websites and risk-takers to commit the energy. But for me I need to be able to get in and out of the project in a reasonable time frame. HTLM did become a far better way forward for me.

I've got multiple projects before me now that should I survive long enough to get them done with not have an ounce of native Apple code.

But it is a fact Apple made a killing out of the store and still does. I thought the whole thing was a ridiculous bureaucracy. I can't remember any details now but I do recall getting some absurd rejections from the app store that left me speechless. I just had to change shit resubmit until they fucked up and let it go because I had no idea what they were bitching about half the time.
