OK. That's the Nevada project, been a while since I looked at it but a turd stock that's had a few hype cycles already. I forget how easy it was supposed to be mined, perhaps not the easiest and other environmental considerations as well?

My understanding of lithium is that it's not rare on an elemental basis in the crust but not all deposits are economic to mine at current or even much higher prices with current techniques. The value add is in processing/refining it, not unlike most REEs.

Unsure I like the idea of picking winners and losers by direct investment especially if not the best projects. We have enough ally/partner countries with rich deposits. Rebuilding strategic metals reserves makes sense, most of which we've let lapse this century.

Lithium can be a useful metal but suspect by the time we all drive EVs, if ever, it will be a different battery technology altogether. Lithium was the basis of recipes for gen1 EVs based on what we had which powered cellphones, laptops, and flashlights just scaled up and better stacked to power vehicles.
