The city dug up our streets and replaced water and sewer pipes. It was a big mess but they finally finished. Now, after the streets are repaved, the natural gas utility started driving around with a truck load of sensors and determined that there were quite a few gas leaks in the pipes under the street. So, more digging.

One hole is about a block away from our house. There are some workers on each side holding a sign that says "slow" on one side, and "stop" on the other. If a car approaches they radio each other and agree which side of the sign to display on their side of the hole.

I was near it when a Waymo vehicle came down the street. The workers got on their radios, but the Waymo didn't wait for them to adjust their signs and just drove by. It stopped inches from the hole when it came to an orange cone. The workers who were digging kind of swarmed around the Waymo. The Waymo put on it's blinkers but it wouldn't move since there were people moving around, and making phone calls, and the two with signs decided to place both to display "stop".
