When I was kid, many moons ago, I remember reading or hearing that the US west coast was rising and the east coast was sinking. That was before plate tectonic movements were understood. Elevation changes were tiny, but measurable.

In the Pacific Northwest, when the Juan de Fuca plate and the North American plate crack under the Cascadia subduction zone causing a huge earthquake and tsunami, elevations along the coast will drop up to 8 or 9 feet and move many feet westward.

It will happen again, as it has in the past, sooner or later (we're overdue). Plate movements, along with volcanoes, are active causes of elevation changes..
