I wanted to marry an Irish woman. I just love the accent and zany spirit. But it wasn't meant to be.

My wife and I are pretty unique in our relationship. I am not just saying that. We have both compared to our friends and relatives lives and we are outliers.

What makes us outliers is the combination of 3 things: (1) We truly have similar values and fundamentally see things the same. (2) We have completely opposite approaches to most things in life, which makes it very challenging to live with each other, but since we fully match on the values side, we muddle through. (3) There is extremely high trust between us. A trust that nearly no other couple has.

If I were in a medical emergency, even if we were divorced, she'd be the person that I would want making life and death decisions for me. If she needs a kidney or a piece of liver, even if we are divorced, I would volunteer it.

The nearest thing to our kind of relationship that I have see is in the Netflix series "The Diplomat". A very good show. You have this couple who are constantly fighting. They have different perspectives on most things. And they are often on the brink of divorce. And yet, they put each other above all else and unconditionally trust each other.

That's us.
