We lost a friend a couple of weeks ago to long Covid. What's strange is that he was a retired county health department worker focused on community health.

He was health conscious, exercised, and was a healthy weight. However, once he got Covid about 5-years ago and was hospitalized in the ICU, he never fully recovered.

He died suddenly of pneumonia after 1-day in the hospital a couple weeks ago. He was a young 70. He leaves a wife and no children.

Since all his family and his wife's family live out of state, I'm not going to the local funeral. We're choosing to see our friend after the funeral and follow up with her weekly. While she has friends here, we want to make sure she doesn't fall through the cracks. She's prone to depression and has other ailments like fibromyalgia, which is debilitating and painful.

They wanted to get together with us recently, and we couldn't make the calendars work. My most interesting memory with him is we went together to see the movie "Pulp Fiction" in the theater when it came out. He's Italian, but it hit about his limit for violence. We both walked out loving Tarantino as we walked out of the theater. We often traveled with them as part of a larger group. They were well liked and he will be missed.

I hope to be able to bring her good examples of the Italian meals her husband loved to eat. They reminded him of home. I hope to be able to do him justice. We'll see.
