I think the issue that Beattie is highlighting is a general one throughout the economy, but more of a glaring problem in mining. In the old days people came up through the ranks, starting young getting their hands dirty and learning about the hard realities of mining. The old guys are leaving the scene, and there is a serious deficit of experience.
The question for us, as U investors, is what does this mean for our investments. It is increasingly clear that the demand-supply deficit is going to be greater and persist longer than has been predicted. It has seemed obvious that this will push the price of U up. But what happens when/if sufficient U308 is not available at any price?
Mining engineers are going to become very well paid, and this will no doubt lead to increased enrollment in mining courses at the relevant universities, but there will be a long lag-time before the graduates enter the work force.
