A lot of unconscious human behavior can be better understood through the lens of (neuroscience of) addiction.

Addiction is exploitable by those who seek to grab our power and wealth.

Gambling, sex, CULTS, overeating, porn, TV, certain drugs, excess and compulsive alcohol, internet trolling, gaming especially capturing young developing brains...

Becoming conscious requires inner drive and courage. Humans also have this power and need to be reminded often. We must protect the young though they will understandably protest limits and regulation.

Moderation is possible for most things, for most people.
