A good comparison to Trump would be Stalin or Putin.

Putin more than Stalin. However vicious and cruel he was, Stalin did have a streak of pragmatism. He didn't try to take the rest of Europe and stopped at the agreed upon lines. I am not sure a Trump or Putin would. Stalin was bright enough to realize that going against the US in Europe would have been a disaster. Especially without the US flow of goods. Putin and Trump probably would convince themselves that a brutal and all out surprise attack would backfoot the US and scare them into submission. What would have happened was a mushroom blossoming over Moscow instead of capitulation, a fact he no doubt took to heart, given he no doubt knew about the plans for Berlin.
