Yes, also the structure of the eye and its frequency response tells you a lot about the role and environment of the creature. Humans are pretty much at the top of this scale, though some animals such as the mantis shrimp have more advanced eyes. I think above the surface, only birds of prey outmatch human eyes. But their frequency response is not as well developed, which is likely due to them being carnivores vs humans being omnivores.
