That may have been the case in the final year or two of his Giants contract but he signed with the Eagles as a free agent. Story was he was content to stay with the Giants but they wouldn't pay his number, and guess they had other roster priorities and the Eagles were willing to pay him. For a while running backs have been downgraded as a priority when it comes to large free agent contracts or resigning. Even the Giants drafting Barkley at #2 overall at the time was a big deal. There's been some notable first round backs since then but for a while considered risky to spend early draft capital on the position due to longevity and injury concerns.
