A note on Bessent's Lament from a FB friend:

When asked to respond to the pain felt by American soybean farmers who are losing their farms due to tariffs, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent asserted that he's a soybean farmer too, so he's also feeling the pain. The interviewer failed miserably by not calling out this abject absurdity.

First of all, Bessent is a hedge fund manager worth $600M. He used that cash to buy up tens of millions of dollars worth of farmland, which he leases back to farmers. He's no more a "farmer" than a minor investor in a football franchise is a "football player." In fact, if farmers lose their land due to his policies, he'll just use some of his millions to snap it up on the cheap. He actually benefits from their disaster.

These people are such pretenders. Deliberately misleading us.
