In trying to make things more "transparent", you ensure that only the below average talent will work for the government.

On the whole, the issue is not what the average Joe working for the government makes or doesn't make, even if he is skimming off the top. The biggest thieves in the government do it quite openly and legally. Those are the holes that you should focus on plugging in.

Come on, I'm not actually going to do anything about government waste. Most individuals have other things to do than worry about something over which they have almost no control.

As for transparency, if the government spending and payroll and everything were highly transparent and easily accessible (this should be relatively easy to do - just map payments into a database, and let someone with free time analyze it and make easy to view graphic user interface reports which somone with time and interest will read and act on), well, that transparency would reduce spending.

But I'm not going to do that. I'm scheduled to have gin martinis and a pizza in a few hours, who has the time?
