Yes, I recently went through numerous very old family photos and discovered that without knowing who or what is shown on the photos, they are pretty much worthless.

I agree, notations on old photos and such makes them more relatable.

Not a photo, but of my more prized possessions is a framed pencil drawing of a landscape with an elk in the foreground and wildfowl flying over a marsh. About 10” x 18”.

A note written on the back in my grandmother’s handwriting indicates it was drawn by my great grandmother, Hildur Kind Rosander. She died in 1901.
