why would world leaders be "working towards geopolitical destabilization"?
Not intentionally, but they're actively working to dismantle the global institutions that help lead to more geopolitical stability.

There are various motivations behind it. Tribalism, racism, xenophobia, that "globalist" conspiracy theory, fears over OMG socialism, and the notion of "might makes right," all combine to help deglobalize the geopolitical order.

Some of these destabilizers believe that a "multi-polar world order" is preferable to globalism, which is why they support PooTin and Xi as they fight against the West.

Which is funny because they're Making the Cold War Great Again.
